This blog is dedicated to Black physical educators in Pre-K - 12 and higher education in the United States. It has become apparent that the state, district, and national PE organizations (SHAPE America and affiliates) are not meeting the needs of Black educators and Black youth or providing avenues to celebrate outstanding Black PE teachers. SHAPE America's Teachers of the Year (TOY) remain overwhelmingly white - year after year. #SHAPEsoWhite It is time to recognize Black excellence in physical education for the hard work Black PE teachers engage in every day. The main goal is to provide a hub to acknowledge and share accolades of Black physical educators doing the work and provide a culturally relevant PE Teacher of the Year Award that is student- and teacher-centered, holistic, and non-arduous, with an understanding of the challenges that Black physical educators encounter in the field.
